Did the year 2020 age you about a decade? Did Ontario’s locking down for another few more months add another 5 years on top of that? You’re not alone.

For most of us, the damage that the lockdown did to our appearance goes well beyond not being able to get a haircut or have our nails done. The stress and the lack of sleep have added new bags under our eyes and spawned some new grey hairs. And this is why our plastic surgery clinic has been extremely busy lately.

Meanwhile, the public gyms being closed, plus a lot of stress eating, plus a few more cocktails than normal has added up to the so-called Quarantine 15. We now have annoying extra pounds on our waists and under our chins. And that’s why we’ve been booking a lot of liposuction consultations recently.

If you don’t feel like you look your best, or anywhere near it, you’re far from alone. The global lockdown has had an appreciable impact on the plastic surgery industry. Some experts are even calling it The Zoom Boom or The Zoom Effect because countless people have been forced to work from home and log onto Zoom calls every day, which has caused people to really zoom into the signs of ageing showing up on their faces.

In fact, a recent survey of North American plastic surgeons revealed that 70% have seen an increase in business during the pandemic, and over 80% of those respondents have attributed this to The Zoom Effect.

Plastic surgeons reported an increase in the following procedures:

  •   Rhinoplasty (78%)
  •   Facelifts (69%)
  •   Eye lifts (65%)
  •   Neck lifts/treatments (58%)

Notice a pattern there? These are all facial procedures, which means they are all webcam-facing areas.

If you’re looking to shave a few years off of your appearance, we offer the following procedures that can help.

The Facelift

Despite the many new innovations and new procedures in the world of plastic surgery, the facelift remains one of the most popular ways to reduce ageing in the face and take years off of your appearance. In fact, it is actually gaining popularity. It was the third most popular plastic surgery in 2020, up from the 5th spot in 2019.

One interesting trend we’ve seen is more people passing on non-surgical procedures (such as Botox) and going all-in on anti-ageing with a full-blown surgical procedure. A lot of the people we talk to are working from home, so they don’t have to worry about using vacation days to recover from surgery. They can discreetly recover from home and wear a mask when they go out in public.

We currently offer 3 different types of facelifts:

Mini Facelift

Are you in your 30s or 40s and just starting to see the signs of ageing showing up? Are you starting to see some wrinkles or fine lines, but you’re not quite ready for a full facelift yet? This is probably the best choice for you.

This procedure is particularly popular among Millennial-aged patients. This generation is now entering their late 30s, or even their 40s. They’re taking a more active role in how they age than their Generation X parents may have.

The tech-savvy Millennial generation also doesn’t have to talk about their surgery in abstract terms or by saying things like make me look 10 years younger. They can simply show their surgeon a filtered or touched-up selfie and show them exactly how they want to look. This leads to better expectation management and better results. The surgeon and patient are instantly on the same page.

Mid Facelift

You may have also heard this called a cheek lift. This procedure gives more targeted attention to your cheek areas than a full facelift. If most of your sagging, wrinkling, and lines are in your cheek area, this could be the procedure for you.

Your surgeon will target the cheeks and mid-face area, smoothing out uneven skin. They may also explore adding more volume to give you a healthy glow and a more youthful look.

Full Facelift

This is the best way to address the signs of ageing throughout your entire face, with one comprehensive and effective surgery.

The two most popular types on the market are:

  •   Traditional deep plane facelifts
  •   SMAS facelifts

To ensure that everyone has the opportunity to look their best, we offer both women’s and men’s facelift procedures.

A SMAS procedure targets a sheet of tissue under your cheek known as the Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System. Your surgeon will lift it and then tighten the skin to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

Blepharoplasty

Did you know that the second most popular plastic surgery in 2020 was a procedure that the average person may not have even heard of?

Blepharoplasty /eyelid surgery was actually the 2nd most performed plastic surgery in North America in 2020, with over 325,000 successful procedures on the year.

The growth of this procedure can also probably be traced back to The Zoom Effect. The signs of ageing will often start to show up around your eyes. The more video calls you’re on, the more you may start to notice saggy or drooping eyelids. You may even have an upper lid sagging into your field of vision.

This can have a tremendous impact on you mentally. If you look tired and worn out, that’s how people will perceive you, and that’s how you will feel. We often tell people that one of the key mental health benefits of plastic surgery is that it can help you feel younger and give you a new zest for life. You will look and feel more rested, youthful, and energetic.

We actually offer two different procedures to meet our clients’ various needs:

Upper Blepharoplasty

This procedure removes the unwanted fat and skin that is currently making the patient’s upper eyelids sag down and look heavy. Your surgeon will make a strategic incision in the upper eyelid crease and then expertly close it with sutures. The goal here is to provide you with a notable improvement, with an imperceptible scar hidden in the eyelid crease.

Men and women may undergo slightly different versions of this procedure. More of the lid’s skin is preserved for men, while the lower lid will still keep some lines so the final result still looks natural and not overdone.

Lower Blepharoplasty

Your surgeon eliminates the extra fat deposits, muscle, and skin with an incision under your lower lashes. They could also go with a technique with no external incision at all. Trans-conjunctival lower blepharoplasty is made through the inner surface of the lower eyelid. Patients love this because there is absolutely no noticeable scar.

We are proud to offer our clients a renowned Toronto eyelid surgery legend, Dr. Bell who has a proven history of performing beautifully natural and subtle blepharoplasties.

Dr. Thomas Bell has been a respected name in the industry for more than 25 years. He was also named one of the best cosmetic surgeons in Canada by Toronto Life, Flare, Fashion, and W Magazine.

Neck Lift (Chin Lift)

Have you recently become obsessed with making sure all of your pictures are taken from a higher angle? If so, the odds are pretty good that you’re trying to reduce the appearance of a double chin or a turkey neck.

Most people assume that the double chin comes as a result of weight gain. However, it can often simply be an unfortunate part of the ageing process, and no amount of diet or exercise can seem to get rid of it. In these cases, a neck lift/ chin lift may be your best bet.

Your surgeon will begin by administering local or general anesthesia to ensure you’re as comfortable as possible and your procedure is pain-free. Next, he will make a small incision under the chin to remove the loose skin and fat, while also tightening the muscles in your chin and neck.

The end result gives you the youthful and defined jawline that both men and women covet.

Liposuction

As we mentioned before, the lockdown has been a perfect weight gain storm for countless people. In fact, a recent survey revealed that 42.3% of Canadians said they’ve gained some unwanted weight during the pandemic, while 37.3% said their increase has been between 6 to 10 pounds.

Gaining 6-10 pounds may not seem like a big deal, but it is to the people who experience it. These extra pounds go right where you don’t want them to be. It often means you have to up your pants or shirt size, while your old clothes don’t fit well and don’t hang comfortably. This has been particularly bothersome during the lockdown. Most clothing stores have been opening and closing at a maddening rate, and their change rooms were closed even when they were open. This has meant having to try to eye-up your size by looking at an item of clothing, or taking a big chance when ordering online.

Can a liposuction procedure help? The average lipo patient will lose between 5-7 pounds. Once again, it’s all about where the pounds are located on your body. The procedure can target the unwanted weight from your notoriously stubborn core area to help you get back into your old jeans. The 5 pounds you lose will be the exact 5 pounds that you were looking to lose. They’re also the ones that diet and exercise couldn’t seem to touch.

We currently offer 3 different types of energy-assisted liposuction for men and women:

  •   BodyTite™ Lipo (Radiofrequency Energy)
  •   Vaser Liposuction (Ultrasound Energy)
  •   SmartLipo™ (Laser Energy)

Each of these techniques will use an energy-assisted device to break up the fat cells. This leads to painless extraction, with no bruising and a very tiny scar. Which procedure will work best for you? That depends on a number of factors.

Dr.. Bell can work closely with you to come up with a customized plan. They are both respected experts in body contouring, and does not believe in cookie-cutter solutions.

Dr. Bell has a tremendous reputation in this area, and his expertise has created some truly striking liposuction before and after pictures.

Non-Surgical Body Contouring Procedures

We offer a number of non-invasive and non-surgical procedures that can help you trim multiple parts of your body. These solutions are popular because they can give you very impressive fat reduction and skin tightening, with absolutely no pain or downtime.

Our clinic offers:

  •   BodyFX
  •   CoolSculpting
  •   EMsculpt
  •   Evolve
  •   Exilis
  •   SculpSure
  •   Vanquish
  •   VelaShape 3
  •   Venus Freeze

Which one will give you the best results? We feel that no single procedure is really any better than the others. In fact, we almost always use a combination of 2 or more combined procedures to give our clients the very best results.

Again, no cookie-cutter solutions— Only customized plans that create amazing outcomes.
