What is the Recovery Period Following a Cheek Lift?
A cheek lift procedure boasts an impressively short recovery period, particularly when compared to its substantial impact on the patient’s appearance. Generally, patients recover fully within 1-2 weeks following the procedure.
How Long Does it Take to Perform a Cheek Lift?
The Toronto Plastic Surgeons can perform the procedure in approximately 3 hours. Before they are driven home, patients will receive post-operative instructions from their doctors.
What is a Cheek Lift?
As most will attest, the signs of aging almost always begin in the face. As early as our 30s, gravity and the effects of aging begin to wreak havoc on our mid-face, causing the fat to shrink and the skin and tissue to fall. The area surrounding the cheeks begins to sag, which in turn leads to noticeable bags under the eyes.
A cheek lift (midface lift) represents a highly effective, efficient and minimally invasive solution to the descent of the mid-face caused by the aging process. By restoring the cheek area to a more rested fullness, a cheek lift instills a refreshed and rejuvenated appearance.
Am I a Good Candidate for a Cheek Lift?
While there are no specific traits that dictate candidacy, proper physical health and realistic expectations can make the recovery process more seamless. Fundamentally, a candidate for a midface lift is simply someone who would like to improve the profile of their face and combat the signs of aging in the cheek area.
We invite all those interested in this procedure to reach out to Toronto Plastic Surgeons for a consultation. However, if you do not feel that this is right for you, please visit our non-surgical procedure page.

Cheek Lift for Men in Toronto
In recent years, cheek lifts have become increasingly more popular among men in their late 30s and early 40s due to the minimally invasive approach, natural-looking results, and overall improvement to the aesthetic appearance of the face the procedure offers. Dr. Bell performs male cheek lifts with exceptionally natural results.
As men age, their skin loses its elasticity, leading to a loss in facial volume. This results in undesirable bags under the eyes and drooping cheeks. Cheek lifts are designed to restore the cheek area to a more youthful and natural fullness. By removing or elevating the excess skin and repositioning the fallen facial fat, a cheek lift creates a revitalized appearance and counters the effects of the aging process, thereby restoring confidence.
In addition to the cheek lift’s subtle but significant impact on one’s appearance, the procedure’s exceptionally short recovery period is very appealing to busy men. The cheek lift is often combined with a lower lid bag removal from a hidden incision inside the eyelid. Patients are generally fully recovered within one week after the cheek lift procedure. Mild swelling and bruising may persist for up to 10 days after the surgery. Any discomfort can easily be managed with oral medication and by applying a compress to the affected area.
As men and women age differently, the procedure varies slightly depending on gender. For example, women might undergo a cheek lift to create fuller, rounder cheeks and a high “cheek sweep” instilling an oval facial appearance that highlights the cheekbones, while men might be interested in the surgery to generate a wider and stronger profile. Most men who undergo a fuller facelift do so to remove the excessive fullness in the lower cheek and jowls that particularly affect their profile during the aging process.
For a price starting at $6,000, the Toronto Plastic Surgeons can completely rejuvenate a man’s facial appearance. If you’re tired of looking fatigued and are ready to look and feel your best, be sure to book a consultation with Dr. Bell at the Toronto Plastic Surgeons.

Different Types of Cheek Lifts
There are cheek lifts that can be performed from inside the mouth and through the temporal hairline and those that can be performed through a lower lid incision. Dr. Bell will work with you to decide the best approach for your goals
How is a Cheek Lift Performed?
All cheek lifts are performed within the comfort of the modern Toronto Plastic Surgeon SpaMedica Surgery suites. The surgery is entirely personalized and specifically designed by our expert team to match your desired results.
Prior to your surgery, Dr. Bell will administer anesthesia to ensure that the procedure is completely painless. During the surgery, the seasoned Toronto Plastic Surgeons lift the mid-face through a small incision placed in the mouth and/or within the temporal hairline. By making an incision in the hairline and in the mouth, the physicians will be able to remove excess skin and reposition the fat and tissue underneath while keeping the scars hidden.
Following the procedure, patients will rest in our recovery room for a couple of hours before being assessed by our specialist nursing team and returning home.
Preparing for a Cheek Lift
To ensure a successful surgery, the doctor will advise that you follow certain preparations in the weeks leading up to your procedure date:
- Smoking should be discontinued two weeks leading up to the procedure and two weeks after. Those who continue to smoke will have a longer recovery period and a greater likelihood of complications.
- Two weeks before your procedure, patients must cease taking Aspirin or any medication that contains Aspirin.
- Six hours prior to surgery, patients must stop consuming any food or drink. Small sips of water are permitted.
- Avoid sun damage two weeks before surgery. This can be achieved by wearing sunscreen.
What to Expect After a Cheek Lift
Following your cheek lift, the Toronto Plastic Surgeons will give you detailed post-operative instructions to ensure a seamless recovery. Keep in mind that the standard swelling and bruising discomfort usually lasts for 10 days after the surgery. Initial discomfort is managed with oral medication and applying a cold compress to the affected area.
Cheek Lift Recovery
After the Surgery: Stitches are put in place at the hairline to ensure that the incision heals properly.
Day 6: Patients may return to the Toronto facilities to remove the stitches.
Week 1: Patients may return to work.
Day 10: Swelling and bruising should subside completely.
Cheek Lift FAQ
Is Getting a Cheek Lift Painful?
Due to the anesthesia administered during the procedure, the patient will not feel any pain during the surgery. While it is normal to experience some swelling and discomfort after the surgery, there will be no extreme or long-term pain. Any discomfort can be easily controlled with oral medication prescribed by the Toronto Plastic Surgeons.
How Do I Know if I Need a Cheek Lift or a Face Lift?
Typically, a facelift is required when there is a significant amount of loose facial and jawline skin, whereas a cheek lift lifts up a fallen cheek fat pad, but there is minimal excess skin. A cheek lift is less invasive and less expensive compared to a traditional facelift. Consequently, it boasts a much quicker recovery time. However, as a result, its effects are less apparent than a traditional facelift. If you are looking for more extensive cosmetic work that affects the entire profile of the face, it might be time to consider a facelift procedure. A cheek lift and jawline lift can be combined if needed.
What is the Minimum Age for a Cheek Lift?
As facial bone structures continue to grow during adolescence, it is recommended that patients wait until they are at least 18 years old before scheduling a consultation for a cheek lift. Younger patients undergo a cheek lift to create the cheek fullness they didn’t inherit.
Can a Cheek Lift Reduce Cheek Fat?
While a standard cheek lift is not designed to reduce cheek fat, there are other procedures performed by the Toronto Plastic Surgeons that involve the removal of unwanted fat from the cheek area.
Can a Cheek Lift Remove Sagging Cheeks?
Yes, a cheek lift can improve sagging skin in the mid-face. However, if you are hoping to address sagging along the neckline, you may require a separate facelift or jawline lift procedure.
