What is The Cost of a SmartLipo Procedure?
The prices for Smartlipo vary from $6,999 for one treatment zone to $11,999 or more for four treatment zones. The cost also depends on the amount of fat targeted, the size of the area, and the number of treatment zones.
Recovery Period Following a SmartLipo?
While some patients fully recover from a SmartLipo procedure the following day, others tend to need 2-7 days of rest.
How Long Does it Take to Perform SmartLipo?
SmartLipo usually requires 30-45 minutes per treatment area. The average length of the procedure is 1.5-2 hours.
What is SmartLipo?
The tiny SmartLipo™ laser is inserted into the fat and the fiber is used to heat and liquefy the fat tissue and seal the small blood vessels. This liquefied fat can be removed gently with less trauma, swelling, and bruising.
Toronto Plastic Surgeons’ advanced SmartLipo™ laser lipolysis facilitates optimal soft tissue contour and shape.
This procedure is performed using a tiny, 1 mm laser fiber that emits gentle laser energy that heats, liquefies and coagulates the fat. In addition, blood vessels are also sealed, allowing for easy extraction with less pain, swelling and bruising than traditional, old-fashioned tumescent liposuction.
Am I a Good Candidate for SmartLipo?
The best candidates are those who have moderate unwanted areas of fat and have tried their best at diet and exercise to modify to no avail. Suitable candidates should be at least 18 years old, within 25 pounds of their ideal body weight, medically well and have realistic expectations.
SmartLipo is best suited for smaller zone liposuction, where thermal energy and contraction is needed. Meanwhile, BodyTite lipo is more suited for larger areas that require more contraction.
People who are not ideal candidates for fat removal in Toronto can consider nonsurgical body sculpting procedures instead.
Removes Inches of Stubborn Fat
SmartLipo can be used to eliminate excess fat in the arms, legs, neck, abdomen, flanks, thighs, and bra line. While it can take up to 6 -12 months to see the full results, there is a noticeable difference within one week.
Patients who eat a healthy diet and exercise regularly can expect long-term results from SmartLipo, as they only require a single treatment!
Surgeons make small incisions during the SmartLipo procedure, and the fat is removed with little force. The minimally invasive method has fewer complications than traditional liposuction, and the recovery time is minimal.
Reduces Sagging Skin and Cellulite
SmartLipo is designed to tighten sagging skin and eliminate or reduce the appearance of cellulite. The laser promotes collagen production, which rejuvenates the skin. The laser also smooths out the skin.
SmartLipo Risks & Complications
As with any surgery, there are risks involved. Although the procedure has a low-risk profile, all risks will be discussed at your consultation. The team at Toronto Plastic Surgeons has years of experience performing liposuction procedures. Significant complications are uncommon and, in the rare event they occur, are expertly managed.
- Minor bruising and swelling: Minor bruising and swelling are common after a SmartLipo procedure. Compression garments reduce inflammation and help the treatment site heal. Bruising and swelling normally disappear within 3 weeks.
- Mild discomfort: Patients experience mild discomfort following the SmartLipo procedure. Resting after the procedure and slowly introducing activities reduce the discomfort, which normally subsides within 2 days.
- Chance of a small burn and scar: The use of laser energy and thermal stimulation carries with it the small risk of a small burn and a scar. Should this complication occur, the Toronto Plastic Surgeons will treat the scar at no additional cost.
- Infections, seromas and hematomas: There is a slight risk of infections, seromas (fluid collection under the skin) or hematomas (small blood collection under the skin) when undergoing SmartLipo. These complications are possible with any surgical procedure, even when the treatment is minimally invasive.

How Are SmartLipo Procedures Performed?
A SmartLipo procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia or oral sedation. Then, the smartlipo surgeon inserts an energy-assisted device directly into the treatment zone. The device then heats, melts and solidifies the fat, which is then removed using a microcannula. SmartLipo procedures are performed inside of our surgery suites under the administration or direct care of Dr. Bell.
Preparing for a SmartLipo Procedure
To obtain the best results from a SmartLipo procedure, patients should begin preparing 6 weeks before their appointment by:
- Eating healthy
- Frequently exercising
- Refraining from smoking
- Drinking lots of water
A week before the procedure, patients must:
- Stop supplements and medication use that thin the blood
- Go over all prescriptions with your surgeon
- Ask someone to pick you up from your appointment
What to Expect Post SmartLipo Surgery
SmartLipo generally has a very rapid recovery. It is common for individuals to undergo multiple-areas and return to very light, sedentary work activities the next day. There will be some swelling (contained by your compression garment) immediately following the procedure with minimal bruising.
Modern liposuction usually has exceptional results. Dr. Bell has well-earned, excellent reputations for their utilization of SmartLipo and BodyTite. Dr. Bell’s patients’ primary motivation should not be weight loss but rather the improvement of their body shape and silhouette.
Is Getting SmartLipo Painful?
Modern SmartLipo laser-assisted liposuction pre-coagulates and liquefies the fat, making it incredibly easy to aspirate, resulting in a very gentle procedure. SmartLipo has been shown in peer-reviewed medical studies to be less painful and have less discomfort, bruising and swelling than old-fashioned liposuction techniques where energy is not used. This means much less pain, only mild bruising, and a much quicker return to work and activities.
Are Multiple Treatments Required?
No, generally only a single SmartLipo procedure is required to achieve the desired contour. Following your SmartLipo, the team will use bulk heating radiofrequency devices, such as Evolve Tite, Venus Freeze, Exilis®, Forma™, Accent®, or Thermage®, to improve and then maintain the most significant skin tightness. Once this post-operative series has been completed, a treatment approximately every 3 months is recommended to maintain the results of the procedure.
Will the Results Last Forever?
You can expect the results to last the rest of your life; the removed fat will never return. However, it is crucial to maintain your weight within 5 to 10 pounds to protect your permanent contouring improvements. Often, as you age, the non-invasive skin tightening procedures will be required to maintain your results.
