The cost of double eyelid surgery varies depending on the patient’s facial profile, eyelid anatomy, and complexity. Typically, the price of an upper eyelid procedure starts at $8,999, while a lower eyelid procedure starts at $9,999, and a combination of upper and lower starts at $13,999.
Please note that special financing options are available for many patients seeking a double eyelid blepharoplasty or those looking to combine their blepharoplasty with other treatments.
Generally, it takes approximately 1 week for patients to recover from Asian eyelid surgery. Eyelid skin is extremely delicate, and you must take gentle care not to disrupt the healing of your upper eyelid crease, the inner corner, and the eyelid itself.
The length of this cosmetic surgery depends on the breadth of cosmetic work that is desired on the double eyelids. However, on average, double eyelid surgery takes approximately 1-2 hours to perform.
Double eyelid surgery, also known as Asian Blepharoplasty, is a popular cosmetic procedure designed to enhance the appearance of the eyes by creating a natural-looking crease in the upper eyelid. This procedure helps to make the eyes appear larger, more vibrant, and more expressive by forming a distinct eyelid fold just above the eyelashes. Initially popular in Asia, particularly in Japan and South Korea, this surgery has gained recognition and acceptance in North America for its ability to provide a more energetic and refreshed look.
The surgery is tailored specifically for patients of Asian descent, aiming to achieve a more pronounced and deeper upper eyelid crease. It is essential for patients to understand the expected appearance of their new eyelid crease, the placement of the incision line, and potential scarring before undergoing the procedure. Detailed information about these aspects will be provided during the consultation for double eyelid surgery at TPS.
There is no particular age restriction for double eyelid surgery, and no specific trait defines a “good” candidate. Good candidates are patients who lack an upper eyelid fold and would like to improve the aesthetics of their eyelids while increasing the volume of fat around the eyes.
While there are no specific traits that dictate candidacy, there are certain conditions that can make the process more seamless.
Good health and a lack of serious medical conditions are essential for a proper recovery following a double eyelid surgical procedure.
Good candidates have realistic expectations concerning the risks of the surgery. It is best to understand that you can still honour your heritage and unique ethnic features while utilizing double eyelid tape or seeking Asian eyelid surgery.
Before your procedure, Dr. Bell and his Toronto team will review your medications and medical history. Based on the scope of the surgery, TPS doctors may recommend that you stop taking certain medications before the surgery.
It is also recommended that you avoid sunlight as much as possible in the days leading up to the surgery by using SPF 30 or higher sunscreen. Patients should stop eating or drinking the night before surgery to ensure a quicker recovery process.
At TPS, an incision double eyelid surgery is performed under general or local anesthetic. Before surgery, the TPS team, including Dr. Bell, will determine the best type of anesthesia and strategy based on a patient’s goals, concerns, previous medical history, and current prescriptions.
After administering anesthesia, Dr. Bell will make an incision in the upper eyelid crease. Through that incision, the doctor will create a natural-looking crease near the levator muscle designed to make the patient’s eyes look brighter and more energetic, along with getting rid of excess skin and fat for certain patients.
Day 1: Use cold compresses (preferably saline) for the first 24 hours to reduce swelling, redness, and bruising after eyelid surgery. To minimize swelling, patients should sleep with their heads elevated at a 45-degree angle for several days.
Day 3: Patients may return to reading or watching television.
Day 5: Patients can return to engaging in non-strenuous activities. As constipation is a side effect of decreased activity, the doctors at TPS recommend that patients drink fluids regularly and consider adding raw fruits to their diet.
Day 6: All sutures are removed, and eye makeup can be applied again.
Week 1: Bruising can be camouflaged with makeup, and healing will be almost complete after your suture removal.
Week 2: Bruising subsides completely, and patients may return to work. Patients may also begin wearing contact lenses.
Week 3: Patients can return to strenuous activities after double eyelid surgery.
1 Month: Double eyelid surgery will be complemented with a recommendation for TPS’s home skin care, which will help support and enhance the surgical results.
There are minimally invasive incisional technique options for single stitch double lid surgery, but the longest-lasting techniques involve surgical planning and a partial incision to the levator muscle in the upper eyelid and eyelid crease.
Double eyelid surgery will remove droopy skin and baggy areas and provide a cosmetically pleasing upper lid fold. After this cosmetic procedure, you no longer have to use double eyelid tape or fret over your upper eyelid crease.
Double eyelid surgery is a powerful way to enhance the shape and appearance of your eyes. Those who undergo this aesthetic procedure tend to look years younger and no longer suffer from eyelid drooping or dry eye.
Scarring is minimal. The small incisions are hidden with an expert incisional method in the natural folds of the eyelid crease. Your double eyelid surgery incision will be unseen, especially in the outer corners or upper eyelid skin.
Lifting the upper and lower lids can reduce the number of deep lines and crow’s feet around the eyes. Your double eyelid and deep eyelid crease will create more animated, brighter eyes to compliment your rejuvenated eyelid skin (and skin in the surrounding area).
Like all procedures, double eyelid surgery comes with the risk of potential complications. Although Dr. Bell has not seen most of the risks listed below, these double eyelid surgery risks have been reported:
Some patients may experience adverse effects from the anesthesia involved in the surgery. However this is extremely uncommon, especially if you share your allergies and medical history with the TPS team during your consultation.
Although infections are very rare, Dr. Bell and his experienced team still take every precaution to ensure that the surgery is a smooth, seamless experience and that potential risks are avoided.
In most cases, redness and swelling are resolved a day or two after the procedure.
Swelling can occasionally be visible after the surgery, but using cold compresses can help reduce the puffiness of your eyelid skin.
Some non-surgical double eyelid surgery alternatives include Botox injectables and fillers to help you achieve a youthful, rejuvenated look – and these alternatives are available to anyone, not just people of Asian descent.
You can pair your double eyelid surgery with an eyebrow lift, facelift, and lower eyelid surgery.
When you undergo plastic surgery in and around the eyes, you need to find a surgeon with years of experience in this practice. The eyelid and eyes are such a delicate and prominent part of your facial features, so only the best will do for this aesthetic surgery.
Dr. Bell trained in Asian eyelid surgery, Asian blepharoplasty, and facial surgery to correct a double eyelid by famed Hawaiian plastic Surgeon Dr. Bob Flowers during his Post Graduate Fellowship and has performed over 3000 facelifts, blepharoplasty, and cosmetic facial procedures throughout his career.
At TPS in Toronto, all our double eyelid surgeries are administered under general or local anesthetic. Our on-site surgical suite, recovery, and overnight rooms exceed the highest levels of certification, making our plastic surgery centre one of the most dependable and elevated experiences in pre and post-op care.
At TPS, double eyelid surgery will not be felt due to local anesthesia. While there may be swelling and discomfort afterward, there will be no extreme or long-term pain from the partial incision on the upper eyelid.
Yes, the results of double eyelid surgery are permanent. The newly created upper eyelid crease will not disappear, as it is expected to last a lifetime – especially when you’re in the hands of a good surgeon like Dr. Bell.
After the surgery, you will immediately notice that your facial complexion appears less tired and deflated. Your eyes and eyelids will appear brighter, energetic, and dynamic, with an enhanced eyelid crease and younger-looking skin. It can take time to get used to a double eyelid fold if you have never had one, but after post-procedure swelling goes down and healing is complete, you will gain newfound confidence.
