We’ve blogged about the many benefits of liposuction. But what do they really mean to you?

What tangible impact would this surgery have? Would it actually change the way you feel on a day-to-day basis? When someone comes to see us at our plastic surgery clinic for a consultation, we like to paint a clear picture of what their life could look like. It’s fine to talk about the mental and physical health benefits of liposuction, but what do they really mean to the patient? How will it make them feel?

This blog will be all about the specifics. We will cover some of the specific benefits of liposuction and explore how they could change your life. Some of these things will be physical and some will be emotional.

But all of these changes are very real, and our former patients love to tell us about them.

1. You Can Stop Beating Yourself Up About Weight Loss ‘Failures’

It is incredibly hard to lose weight, but failing to lose weight could be even harder. The stress that you felt from being overweight is now compounded by feelings of being lazy or being a failure.

Let’s start by being a lot more kind to ourselves. Let’s redefine the word failure in the world of weight loss. Most weight loss failures are the result of people not really knowing what’s possible.

In the beginning, people may tell you that the stomach is one of the most difficult areas to trim through diet and exercise. But a few weeks later, you see for yourself that it’s actually borderline impossible. Even models and Hollywood stars rely on liposuction to trim those impossible areas.

After a few months of dedication in the gym, and discipline in the kitchen, you may look in the mirror and feel that you’re nearly there. But being stuck nearly there for a few months after that can be absolutely maddening.

Don’t beat yourself up. Live a healthy life. Take yourself as far as diet and exercise can take you, then let liposuction do the rest. A few of the most stubborn places to get liposuction could include your:

  •   Abdomen
  •   Buttocks
  •   Waist and Flanks
  •   Upper Arms
  •   Face
  •   Neck And Chin
  •   Thighs
  •   Lower Legs
  •   Chest
  •   Back

The ideal liposuction candidate is someone that is around 5-15 pounds from their target weight. In most cases, those pounds are the difficult ones that don’t seem to want to leave, no matter how much kale you eat or KMs you run. 2. You Can Lose ‘The Quarantine 15’

Weight gain has been a major problem for Canadians, particularly Torontonians.

We’ve had to deal with, lockdowns, red zones, and emergency brakes. This means that your favourite gym, spin class, or yoga studio has probably been opening and closing at a maddening rate.

As a result, about 30% of surveyed Canadians said that they have gained weight over the lockdown, and another 21% have gained more than 5 lbs. We can take a bit of comfort in knowing that we’ve gained less weight than our neighbours to the south, with 40.52% of surveyed Americans gaining some weight during the lockdown, and over 28% gaining more than 5 lbs.

This weight gain has been dubbed The Quarantine 15 by some. It’s a funny name, but not a lot of people are laughing. They’re struggling physically and emotionally during the lockdown, and this weight gain is only adding to their battles.

Again, if you’re only about 5-15 pounds away from your target weight, a liposuction procedure could be perfect for you. There is no need to feel guilty about the weight you’ve gained. You don’t need to worry about how and when you are going to lose it.

You also don’t need to wait for the world to go back to normal. You can start your journey by reaching out to one of our Toronto liposuction specialists right now! Our clinic gives you access to one of Canada’s foremost body contouring specialists, Dr. Tom Bell. He is well-known throughout Canada for his skill and expertise, while our clinic also has today’s most advanced energy-assisted liposuction devices.

3. You Can Finally Get Your Pre-Pregnancy Body Back

Some women are able to regain their pre-baby bodies fairly quickly and just work to maintain it from there. They are the lucky ones!

A lot of women may struggle for years to look and feel like their former selves. Their bodies have changed, and their lives have changed in ways that don’t let them do anything about it. They’re too busy to spend hours at the gym. They’re also trying to feed a kitchen table full of picky eaters, so trying to eat right is a real struggle.

For a lot of these women, it’s not even so much about the weight they gained during pregnancy. It’s about the 4 or 5 pounds-per-year they have put on every year after that.

They gave up focusing on themselves so they could focus on their family. Eventually, they reach a point where they look in the mirror and wonder if they will ever look and feel the way they used to ever again.

There are a number of options available and liposuction is certainly one of the most popular. It gives you that targeted level of fat removal that you’re probably looking for. You can trim your waist and lower back area to give you your former shape and silhouette.

If you’re a mom looking to regain your pre-baby body, you might also be debating liposuction vs tummy tuck and wondering which one would be best for you. This is an important conversation to have with your plastic surgeon. But generally speaking, you would consider a tummy tuck if you’re looking to lose extra fat and extra skin. Liposuction can tighten the skin, but if there is enough excess skin to warrant removal, the tummy tuck could be the best way to go.

You might also consider The Mommy Makeover. This is a customized combination of procedures that target various areas of the body. They typically involve some combination of tummy tuck or liposuction, as well as a breast lift or implants.

4. You Can Wear Your Old Clothes and Fit into Your Former Sizes

One of the most disheartening parts of gaining weight is having a closet full of clothes that no longer fit. As you start to put on a few pounds, you’re forced to suffer the indignity of trying on clothes in your former size that don’t fit anymore. You’re forced to move up to the next size, and maybe even the size after that.

Now you have a closet full of clothing that doesn’t fit quite right anymore. From there you have a choice: You can accept that you have a new size, or you can make it your mission to get back into shape so you can get back into your favourite clothes.

If you set out to get your old body back, it can be discouraging to see how long these clothes may hang in your closet, unworn. Summer could turn into fall… then fall could turn into winter.

Liposuction can help you achieve your goals faster and help you get back into your old clothes. It’s by no means a substitute for diet and exercise, but it’s the perfect way to augment a healthy lifestyle and remove those extra pounds and inches that you can’t seem to shed. Those are often the inches that are keeping you out of your favourite clothes.

5. Less Fat in Your Bloodstream

We are going to discuss the health benefits of liposuction procedures. But first, we should clear the air about some of the things lipo cannot really do.

Liposuction is not intended to help people dealing with excessive obesity. As such, it isn’t intended to help you with obesity-related conditions like heart disease, diabetes, or stroke. Healthy eating and exercise are the only way to truly deal with those issues.

On the other hand, a liposuction procedure can help you reduce the amount of fat in your bloodstream. A study from The American Society of Plastic Surgeons measured the triglyceride levels of over 200 people before and after liposuction procedures. The people with normal triglyceride levels saw no changes. But the people with high triglyceride levels before their liposuction saw a 43% reduction after their surgery.

Basically, triglycerides are a type of fat (lipid) that is found in your blood. High levels of triglycerides can be a warning sign of:

  •   High blood pressure
  •   High blood sugar
  •   Abnormal cholesterol levels

In general, lowering these levels is very rarely a bad thing. So you can certainly count this among the liposuction health benefits that patients enjoy.

6. You Will Feel Sexier and Be More Interested in Sex

Yes, we’ve talked about some of the physical and mental aspects. But we will now explore the sexual health benefits of liposuction.

There are a number of studies that have explored the link between your BMI and your so-called libido. Having a BMI that is either too high or too low can throw your body chemicals out of whack and impact your sex drive.

However, in the case of liposuction (where your BMI isn’t massively changed), the increase in sexual drive and confidence is more from the emotional changes. It typically results in a big self-esteem boost for both men and women. They feel more comfortable and confident, which makes them feel sexier.

It’s also important to note that this often comes after a few months (or years) of feeling frustrated with how they look. A patient may have been less interested in sex prior to their procedure because they felt self-conscious about how they looked. After their liposuction, they get a new wave of confidence and a renewed zest for life.

They can be overwhelmed with a wonderful sense of Finally! They finally feel the way they have always wanted to feel about themselves.

7. You Will Focus on Maintaining Weight Instead of Losing Weight

There is a big difference between trying to lose weight and trying to maintain your current weight.

When you’re trying to maintain weight, you’re less stressed on a day-to-day level. There is less urgency in sticking to your diet or exercise routine.

If you skip the gym or have an unexpected cheat meal (or cheat day) when you’re trying to lose weight, there is often a lot of guilt that goes with it. You feel down on yourself and wonder how far it will set you back. But when you’re simply trying to maintain your weight, you’re more likely to cut yourself some slack, knowing that it’s not a big deal and you can do better tomorrow.

Don’t’ get us wrong. Eating well and staying active are absolutely crucial to maintaining your results after any sort of body contouring procedure. You are very much in charge of determining how long you keep this body. But maintaining a body is far less stressful than chasing a body.

A lot of our patients are already very active. Some are full-blown gym rats. They were going to keep going to the gym no matter what. But after their liposuction procedure, they’re going to the gym because they want to – not because they feel they absolutely have to.
