Have you ever heard a new mom talking about how quickly she lost weight after having her child? Did you wish she would shut up about it?

Some women are blessed. They’re able to give birth and their bodies come back to them with little or no effort. If you’re reading this today, the odds are very good you are not that woman… Most are not. You’re probably frustrated from a lack of progress from diet and exercise, and you’re researching plastic surgeons to see if they can help.

Regaining your pre-baby body can be incredibly frustrating. In fact, one survey revealed that 61% of soon-to-be-moms said that they planned to lose their baby weight by the time the child’s first birthday arrived. As you can imagine, a lot of that optimism faded and reality asserted itself. The same survey revealed that nearly 60% of mothers of 1- to 2-year-olds were still carrying extra weight.

Another study shed some light on some of the most popular weight loss struggles that women face. Thousands of moms from around the world were surveyed and…

  • 80% think that healthy eating can be expensive
  • Over 50% said their partner didn’t support a healthy lifestyle
  • 32% said the area they needed the most help with was their willpower
  • Over 30% got 5 hours or less sleep each night
  • Less than 20% said they had the energy to exercise

The odds of losing weight seem to be stacked against you in every way possible—physically, emotionally, and logistically. This is why we’re seeing a rise in the demand for the Mommy Makeover in Toronto and the rest of the GTA. It is one of the best ways to attack multiple areas of the body, and help you address some of the most common complaints, such as:

  • Unwanted Fat
  • Sagging in the breasts
  • Cellulite
  • Extra skin
  • Unwanted hair

What does a Mommy Makeover procedure include? How much is it and how do you get one?

To help you fill in some of the gaps, we will cover the most important Mommy Makeover questions in this blog.

What Does a Mommy Makeover Consist Of?

The Mommy Makeover isn’t a templated or steadfast bundle of procedures. There are no such things as one-size-fits-all solutions in plastic surgery. The Mommy Makeover procedure is actually a bespoke group of plastic surgery and body contouring procedures, fully customized to the patient’s goals.

The procedure will typically include:

Breast Augmentation

Nearly all Mommy Makeovers will include a breast augmentation procedure of some sort. This could include:

  • Breast implants
  • A breast lift
  • A breast lift with implants

Sagging and drooping in the breast area are two of the most common issues that women come to us with. The impact of time, gravity, and motherhood has seemingly taken their toll on their silhouette, while their nipples may also point downwards.

The type of procedure you undergo will depend on your goals. Do you want larger breasts? Firmer? Both? We can help!

Dr. Bell is one of the nation’s finest breast augmentation physicians and has performed thousands of breast augmentations. He can actually show you what your results could look like using VECTRA® 3-D pre-op breast imaging.

Liposuction

You may also be dealing with extra fat and rolls around your midsection and you could live without it. If so, you are probably sick and tired of trying to get rid of them through diet and exercise. This is notoriously the most difficult area to trim, so stop torturing yourself and starving yourself.

Get the help of a skilled plastic surgeon with a history of helping moms like you. An expertly performed liposuction can help you finally see some results in those tricky areas.

Modern energy-assisted liposuction technology will actually liquefy the fat before it’s removed. This means very easy extraction, with almost no bruising and minimal downtime.

Our clinic currently offers 3 different types of liposuction procedures:

BodyTite™ Lipo (radiofrequency energy): Many patients see soft tissue contraction of 40-50% in a year or less.

SmartLipo™ (laser energy): You could see a 17% contraction of the treated skin, as well as a 25% improvement in skin elasticity.

VASERLipo™ (ultrasound energy): This procedure is what you will want to get if you’re also planning on getting any sort of fat grafting procedure like a Brazilian Butt Lift, breast augmentation, or facial fat transplantation.

We also offer a number of non-surgical body contouring options that can be used on multiple areas of your body.

We offer procedures such as:

  • CoolSculpting
  • SculpSure
  • Evolve
  • Vanquish
  • EMsculpt
  • BodyFX
  • Vanquish
  • Venus Freeze
  • Excilis

VelaShape 3

Which one will work best for you? There is no best solution. Different bodies will respond better to different treatments.

We don’t believe in cookie-cutter solutions and we’ve found that the best results come from a customized combination of 2 or more different types of treatments. Our surgeons will work with you to come up with a customized plan to suit your goals and your body.

A Tummy Tuck

Many of our patients want to do more than just remove unwanted fat from their stomach areas—they also want to remove the unwanted skin or the so-called pregnancy belly.

You might have extra skin that is negatively impacting your silhouette, and hangs uncomfortably over your pants. Most infuriatingly, no number of sit-ups or miles jogged can help you get rid of it. You seem to be simply stuck with it for the rest of your life.

If this sounds all too familiar, you’re a candidate for a tummy tuck. This safe and simple procedure can help you deal with unwanted fat, skin, and stretch marks in your stomach area.

It may also include:

  • Fat Grafting To The Buttock
  • Laser Removal Of Unwanted Hair
  • Stretch Mark Reduction
  • Cellulite Treatment

Of course, we still offer all of these procedures à la carte. However, the Mommy Makeover is for women looking for a more dramatic change, and looking to address more than one part of their bodies.

Why Do Women Get a Mommy Makeover?

There is a big misconception out there that most people that get plastic surgery are chasing an image of perfection espoused by Hollywood and social media. We are here to tell you that this is absolutely not the case, particularly when it comes to the Mommy Makeover procedure.

The women coming to see us are not trying to look like the perfect celebrity moms on TV. They’re trying to look like themselves again! They often start to notice a few pounds here, a few more wrinkles there over the years. They don’t really like how things fit them anymore, nor how they look in most pictures anymore.

These women aren’t chasing perfection. They don’t want to look like movie stars—they just want to feel like themselves again!

“In my conversations with patients, I hear patients express their desires,” wrote plastic surgeon, Dr. Anu Antony in a great article.

“Some wish to restore that which cancer took away. Some want to defy their genetics. Others want to undo the effects of pregnancy on their body. I have yet to hear a woman say she is acquiescing to societal demand for perfection.”

We couldn’t agree more.

Changing Attitudes

If you’re on the fence about getting a Mommy Makeover procedure (or any other type of plastic surgery, for that matter), you might be getting hung up on what your friends and family may think. That’s very normal. But the good news is that getting plastic surgery is far more normal than you may think.

In 2014, a phone survey revealed that only 17% of respondents were in favour of plastic surgery, and 49% were completely against it. But, fast forward 6 years and The American Society of Plastic Surgeons surveyed 1000 people with no prior history of plastic surgery. An astonishing 49% of respondents said they were open to getting their first-ever plastic surgery.

This means that the number of people open to plastic surgery has nearly tripled in only 6 years. What could cause such a large societal shift in thinking over such a short period of time? Experts are pointing to two main causes.

First of all, the Millennial generation is now in their 30s or 40s. That means they’ve likely had their kids. They’re also now starting to see a few new pounds and wrinkles, and they want to do something about it. That’s why the Millennial age group is easily the fastest growing plastic surgery market, and things will only grow from here.

The second change agent has been the COVID-19 lockdown. Millions of people were locked down and forced to work from home. This meant that they had to log onto daily Zoom calls, and they really started to hate the way they look on a webcam.

All kidding aside, these video call platforms have had a very tangible impact on the plastic surgery industry. Many in the industry are actually calling it The Zoom Boom or the Zoom Effect. In fact, 70% of surveyed plastic surgeons said business picked up during the lockdown, while 83% attributed the spike to the Zoom Boom.

So, if you’re a mom in her 30s or 40s right now and you’re contemplating a Mommy Makeover, you’re not alone. Are few of your friends are most likely considering it too.

How Much Does a Mommy Makeover Cost?

Most plastic surgeries have highly variable prices, with lots of factors involved, and the Mommy Makeover is no exception.

The size of your city and your market are always big factors in plastic surgery. For example, a Toronto liposuction procedure is probably going to cost you a bit more than one in a smaller market. But you’re also going to most likely get access to a more skilled and experienced surgeon.

Because the Mommy Makeover is a combination of several different procedures, your costs will be even more alterable than most single procedures.

However, to give you a general idea, your procedure could start at about $16,999.

How Do I Choose a Mommy Makeover Surgeon?

Because you’re looking to get multiple procedures done, you need someone that has a proven track record of performing all of them, both individually and as a part of the Mommy Makeover. You need more than just a Toronto tummy tuck surgery expert. You need someone with proven mastery in all areas.

Toronto Plastic Surgeons Dr. Bell has over 25 years of experience and he has performed over 5000 breast augments, liposuctions, tummy tucks, and body contouring procedures throughout his illustrious career.
