What Is the Recovery Period Following Cellulaze™?

It’s normal for patients to experience some bruising in the treatment area following a Cellulaze™ procedure. The recovery period is generally minimal, with patients typically returning to a normal routine within 1 to 2 days.

How Long Does it Take to Perform Cellulaze™?

A Cellulaze™ treatment is quite quick, lasting approximately 60 minutes per area.

What is Cellulaze™?

Cellulite is often described as “lumpy” or “bumpy” skin, sometimes compared to the texture of cottage cheese. It is an aesthetic concern that affects over 80% of women. For many, cellulite — most commonly visible on the upper thighs and buttocks — can affect confidence.

Cellulaze™ is a cellulite reduction treatment that addresses cellulite without the need for surgery. The minimally invasive, laser-based procedure works by applying heat beneath the skin to dissolve the fibrous bands responsible for dimpling, resulting in smoother-looking skin. CelluTite™ is a related procedure that uses radiofrequency rather than a laser probe. Both treatments target cellulite at the structural level.

Am I a Good Candidate for Cellulaze?

Cellulaze™ is an ideal procedure for patients with advanced cellulite, including dimples that have not responded to diet and exercise.

Candidates should have realistic expectations about the final results. Patients who are pregnant or have uncontrolled medical diseases are not suitable candidates. However, conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and skin disorders can be present and still lead to excellent Cellulaze™ results.

Cellulaze™ Risks & Complications

Like all procedures, Cellulaze™ carries the risk of potential complications. Although serious complications are extremely rare, the following have been reported:

  • Bruising: Bruising can be managed with compression garments and typically subsides within a couple of days.
  • Soreness: It is normal for the treated area to feel sore in the week following the procedure.
  • Swelling: Any swelling should subside after a couple of days.
  • Infection: Extremely rare, and typically avoided by using an experienced, reputable surgeon. Preventative antibiotics are used.

How is a Cellulaze™ Procedure Performed?

To begin the Cellulaze™ procedure, the treating surgeon marks the areas to be treated and administers a local anesthetic.

Several tiny incisions are made to allow a small cannula to be inserted under the skin’s surface.

The laser is then directed through the cannula to reach the target area. The laser heat releases the fibrous bands that cause cellulite dimples, freeing them up and promoting collagen production, which thickens and firms the skin.

Preparing for a Cellulaze™ Procedure

Prior to the procedure, the treating surgeon and their team will review the patient’s medications and medical history. To ensure the fastest recovery and minimize the chance of complications, patients should stop taking anti-inflammatory drugs and smoking. Patients should also limit alcohol consumption in the week leading up to the procedure.

What to Expect After Cellulaze™

Immediately after treatment, it is normal to experience some bruising and mild discomfort. Patients are sent home wearing a compression garment to support optimal recovery and are encouraged to rest for a couple of days.

After a couple of days, patients are typically able to resume normal activities. Some immediate improvements may be visible, but final results may take 3–6 months to fully materialize.

Cellulaze™ Recovery Timeline

  • Day 2: Bruising and discomfort typically subside, and normal activities can be resumed.
  • Week 1–2: More strenuous activities can be resumed at the treating surgeon’s discretion.
  • Month 3–6: Final results become more visible, with a noticeable reduction in cellulite and improved skin smoothness.

Cellulaze™ FAQ

Is Getting a Cellulaze™ Treatment Painful?

No. Before the procedure begins, the target area is numbed with a local anesthetic, so there is very little discomfort. Freezing is performed with nitrous oxide, making the procedure comfortable throughout. Any discomfort experienced is light and tolerable.

How Many Treatments Are Needed Before I See Results?

For impressive results, just one single Cellulaze™ treatment is required. However, additional treatments may be necessary if cellulite reappears.

Is There Any Scarring?

Because the incisions made for Cellulaze™ are very small, stitching is often not required. The incision points are virtually undetectable, with little to no scarring.
