Dr. Thomas Bell, MD

Double eyelid surgery, also referred to as an eyelid lift or blepharoplasty, requires a consultation that addresses all concerns and thoroughly discusses your outcome with Dr. Bell’s expertise. Depending on your specific goals and medical history, he will develop a customized surgical plan. During your consultation, ask as many questions as you want to ensure you fully understand the process and your aftercare steps.

Educate The Patient On The Procedure

During the consultation process, Dr. Bell’s primary concern is to educate every patient about the different aspects of blepharoplasty, and he will recommend the best treatment option. You will be provided with information regarding the risks and benefits of the procedure, along with the steps involved.

Establish Reasonable Goals

Dr. Bell wants you to have reasonable expectations going into your double eyelid surgery and will provide you with before and after photos, so you can take inspiration and point out features you like and aspects you may want to avoid. Make sure you are in a healthy state of mind with realistic aesthetic goals for any cosmetic surgery.

Evaluate The Patient’s Health

Dr. Bell will evaluate your medical history and assess your current wellness, including your eye anatomy, skin laxity in the eyelids, the extent of concerns, skin type, and any signs of infection that could interfere with the procedure. The patient should disclose habits, such as smoking, that can affect the surgeon. You should also disclose whether or not you’ve had LASIK surgery.

Why Consultations Are Important

Having your consultation with Dr. Bell is the first step to your dream appearance. Double eyelid surgery requires a deep understanding of the patient’s goals, eyelid structure, and medical history. Pre-surgery steps are vital to ensure that you have approved every change and that everything discussed during the consultation aligns with your goals.

Your consultation with Dr. Bell will allow you to:

  • Learn about the procedure.
  • Provide your medical information to Dr. Bell.
  • Talk about your needs and goals.
  • Ask questions about any concerns you have.
  • Discover combination procedures that can optimize your desired outcome.
  • Understand what your post-procedure results will look like, along with aftercare instructions and a recovery timeline.
  • See before and after pictures of the treatment results you will be getting.

Review Before & Afters From The Clinic

The blepharoplasty procedure trims away loose skin and tightens the muscles around the eye area, leaving you with a refreshed, youthful appearance and no more interference in your line of vision. This short and effective procedure can reverse unwanted eye bags and fix puffy, saggy, or droopy-looking eyes with very little downtime.

Dr. Bell is highly skilled at performing beautifully natural and subtle blepharoplasties. Check out some before and after photos from our clinic to see how effective this procedure can be!

Pre and Post-Op Care Instructions

Before your blepharoplasty, Dr. Bell will have you follow specific pre-op instructions in the weeks leading up, including:

  • Quitting smoking for a month – two weeks before and after your procedure.
  • Stop taking over-the-counter medications that thin your blood for a week.
  • Don’t drink or eat anything six hours before your surgery.
  • Avoid sun damage for two weeks following surgery, and always wear sunscreen.

After your double eyelid surgery, your swelling and bruising will only last up to one week. You can manage discomfort with a doctor-approved oral medication and a cold compress. You will attend a few post-op care appointments with Dr. Bell, where your incisions will be reviewed.

For the first day, have someone available to drive you home and stay with you the night after your procedure. Use cold compresses to control swelling and bruising. After the fifth day, regular activities can resume, and for the first week, you should sleep with your head elevated to minimize swelling. After two weeks, you can return to work, exercise, and wear contact lenses. After one month, you can go out into the sun for prolonged periods, but always remember to wear sunscreen.

What Are Some Questions I Should Ask During My Consultation?

During your consultation, be sure to ask about Dr. Bell’s credentials, schooling, awards, and take a look at his patient reviews. This way, you can ensure you are in the right hands and have someone with a lot of experience and esteem performing your double eyelid surgery.

You should also ask questions about the procedure, like whether you are a good candidate for blepharoplasty, if your goals are reasonable, and what the procedure steps are. Some other questions you can ask include:

  • Will I have scarring?
  • What will recovery be like?
  • What kind of anesthesia will be used?
  • What are the risks?
  • How much time should I schedule off of work?
  • Which medications should I stop taking before my procedure, and for how long?
  • Can I wash my face after surgery?
  • When can I go back to work or start exercising again?
  • When should I return for a follow-up appointment?
