If you are a person who is considering receiving more than one type of cosmetic surgery, a common question you may have is whether or not you’ll need to have each procedure separately performed or if it is safe to bundle them all together in one go.

The good news is that, yes, in general, it is perfectly safe and very common for patients to double or even triple up on procedures. In many cases, it may even be necessary. For example, in many septoplasty procedures to treat a deviated septum, reconstructive rhinoplasty may be required to adjust the overall shape of the nose. Another notable example is the combination of tummy tucks and abdominal liposuction, as the procedures work together to create an improved contour both above and below the skin.

When patients come to our clinic for Toronto breast augmentation, it is very common for them to desire the benefits of additional procedures to help further enhance their desired results. During your consultation with our skilled team of Toronto plastic surgery specialists, you will be able to discuss at length all of the goals you wish you achieve with your breast augmentation and whether or not additional procedures would be beneficial or possible at that time.

So what are some of the cosmetic procedures that people often pair with breast implants? Before we can answer that, let’s first talk about what goes into standard breast augmentation.

Breast Implants

Our Toronto clinic offers both saline and silicone implants that come in many different sizes and shapes to best suit the individual needs of our patients.

Saline Breast Implants

Saline implants are usually what people think of when they think of breast implants, and this is because saline breast implants have been around since the late ’60s, making a huge jump in popularity around the ’80s and ’90s.

The shells of these breast implants are filled with a sterile saltwater solution that is known as saline. During the breast augmentation procedure, the implant casing is inserted while still empty, so it may be more easily placed and with far less invasiveness. Once the casing is in position, it is filled with the saline solution until it reaches the desired size and shape.

The non-invasiveness of this surgery is what makes it such a popular choice amongst patients. Another reason it is so popular is due to the safety of the contents of the implant. Saline is a sterile water solution, which means that in the event of a puncture or rupture, the contents may safely be absorbed into the body without any negative reaction. Additionally, as the solution is so thin, any breakage to the implant is identifiable almost right away by its quickly deflating nature, allowing you to seek correction almost immediately.

Saline breast implants are also less expensive than silicone implants, as the manufacturing costs to create them are less. On average, these implants will cost a few hundred to a thousand dollars less than their silicone counterparts.

However, there are a few disadvantages to choosing saline breast implants over silicone. The saline within the implants tends to slosh around, as water does, during moments of activity such as bending and jumping. This can result in a noticeable rippling effect under the skin, making it more apparent that one has implants. Additionally, saline implants do not feel like natural breast tissue. However, the effect of both downsides can be reduced when paired with fat grafting (more on this later).

Silicone Breast Implants

Silicone implants, also known as gummy bear implants, are a more modern style of breast implants. As the implant is filled with a cohesive silicone gel, it is denser and firmer, allowing for a form-stable implant versus the saline implants. These implants look, move, and feel much more like natural breasts than saline counterparts. Due to this, silicone implants have become an industry favourite in replacing saline implants.

However, silicone implants are not without their drawbacks. While it is less likely to rupture than saline implants due to their dense material, it is still possible. As silicone is a foreign material, it cannot be absorbed into the body naturally like saline can and requires surgical removal in the event of a rupture.

The Best Procedures to Pair with Breast Implants?

Now that you know what’s involved when we talk about implants, let’s discuss the procedures our clinic offers that can help make your breast augmentation the best it can be.

Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation

This procedure is special because it is both a standalone breast augmentation itself and can also be paired with and performed alongside implants.

Many women do not like the idea of having foreign materials such as implants in their bodies but still desire an improved overall appearance for fuller or larger breasts. This is where fat transfers come into play.

Fat transfers/Fat grafting is a procedure that takes fat cells from a donor area on the body through liposuction (Making this technically two cosmetic procedures in one!) and redistributes them to the desired area. This technique has been used for creating fulness in several areas of the body, such as the buttocks, cheeks of the face, and breasts.

Fat transfer breast augmentations can create a long-lasting (often permanent) effect of creating volume and fullness in the breasts, using only the natural fat in your body.

This procedure is also often performed in tandem with both saline and silicone implants, acting as a layer of fat between the skin’s surface and the implants themselves. This helps to make the breasts feel more natural, as well as reduce any signs of rippling or movement within them.

Breast Lifts

Breasts can naturally begin to sag over time, whether due to aging, weight changes, pregnancy, or breastfeeding. When this happens, the tissues droop down and create the appearance of less full, saggy breasts.

breast lift surgery is a cosmetic procedure that corrects these effects, restoring the breast to its natural position and tightness. This is done by making incisions, reshaping the tissues, and removing excess loose skin.

There are several different surgical methods to perform breast lifts depending on the extent of the sagging, ranging from the most minimally invasive crescent lifts to the most extensive anchor lifts.

When performed on their own, breast lifts will typically only restore the original fullness and position of the breasts and do not result in an increase of cup size.

Because of this, breast lifts and breast augmentation with implants are often paired together. During the procedure, the lift is performed; in most cases, this will usually be a crescent or lollipop lift. Following the lift, the implants are then inserted to their desired location and size and the procedure is completed.

These two procedures can even be performed with fat transfer breast augmentation, resulting in a combination of four procedures in one (counting the liposuction required with the fat transfer).

Combining these procedures helps create breasts that have an ideal symmetry, size, feel, and perkiness to them.

Of course, combining these procedures does have a slight impact on the recovery time of the procedure, as a breast lift has a slightly longer recovery time than standard implants; and the implementation of liposuction results in a different area on the body to require healing simultaneously.

Liposuction

As we’ve now mentioned a few times, liposuction is a popular procedure to combine with breast augmentation, generally due to its usage with fat transfer breast augmentations. Liposuction can be performed almost anywhere on the body where stubborn and unwanted fat can collect itself; this includes areas such as the stomach, love handles, thighs, buttocks, ankles, and arms. Multiple liposuctions can be performed at once on different areas of the body, helping to improve overall contour in several locations at once.

Liposuction Methods at Toronto Plastic Surgeons

Tumescent: A method of liposuction where a solution is injected into the body, which causes the fat to swell and firm, allowing for easier removal.

BodyTite™: This procedure liquefies fat with radio frequencies, allowing for the liquid fat to be removed with minimal effort. The heat from this method also helps to stimulate the tissues in the skin to tighten over time following the surgery, allowing for a slimmer look.

VASERLipo™: This liposuction technique uses ultrasound technologies to break up fall cells by using sound energy. This is a great method for fat removal to be repurposed for fat transfer breast augmentation.

SmartLipo™: This procedure beams laser technology into the area, melting the fat down for easier removal, also allowing for soft tissue contraction similar to BodyTite.

Prices may vary depending on the extent of the procedure, as well as the method used, but in general, the liposuction cost in Toronto is $6,999.

It’s important to keep in mind that TPS offers procedures to both men and women. We perform breast augmentations on men and liposuction for men, so if you want to find out the cost of men’s liposuction you can click here.

Tummy Tuck

Abdominoplasty, or the tummy tuck, is one of the most popular cosmetic surgical procedures in North America. This procedure is performed to remove any loose, drooping, or excess skin from the stomach region that has been stretched out due to pregnancy, age, or weight fluctuation.

By making incisions discreetly along the hipbones (usually under the bikini line), the skin can be pulled up and tight. In some cases, the belly button may need to be re-centred and reshaped. The result is a core that is firm and tight.

tummy tuck in Toronto is often combined with liposuction to help remove underlying fat in the stomach, allowing for the skin that is pulled tight to be more smoothly applied against the muscles of the stomach. These procedures are often done alongside breast augmentations, especially if liposuction is being used on the stomach for fat transfers. The idea is that between the enhanced breasts and improved stomach contour, the patient will have a more fit and ideal “beach ready” body. This combination is also known as being part of a mommy makeover.

Of course, you can seek out a tummy tuck on its own, no matter your gender. If you are interested in a women’s or men’s tummy tuck procedure, Toronto Plastic Surgeons has you covered.

Mommy Makeover

A mommy makeover is a term used to refer to a combination of cosmetic surgery procedures that are performed at the same time to turn back the clock on a woman’s body to a time prior to pregnancy or perhaps even enhance it further than it was before.

A full mommy makeover generally consists of combining breast augmentation such as implants and fat transfers (to either or both the buttocks and breasts), liposuction, as well as a tummy tuck. Additional procedures such as laser hair removal, stretch mark removal, and cellulite treatments may also be performed.

By combining these procedures, many of the common insecurities among women who have had children can be addressed, whether it is stretched skin in the stomach, loss of volume in the breasts, or a lack of overall body confidence. A mommy makeover is able to treat many of these issues at once, allowing the patient to achieve their ideal body image without multiple attempts at surgery.

Despite the name and selling point of being able to restore a woman’s body back to the days of pre-pregnancy, it is important to clarify two things.

Firstly, you do not need to be a mother to seek a mommy makeover. Breast augmentation, liposuction, and tummy tucks may be performed on any suitable and healthy candidate.

Secondly, while it may be tempting to seek this procedure immediately following the birth of a child to quickly snap back the body after pregnancy, it is important to wait a minimum of six months following childbirth before abdominal surgery. This allows for your stomach muscles and tissues to properly heal themselves from pregnancy.
