How Long Does it Take to Recover From Fractora™?

Recovery from a Fractora™ session depends on the aggressiveness of the settings used. For mild settings, recovery is quick, and most patients resume normal activities immediately. For more vigorous settings targeting more significant skin concerns, up to a week of downtime may be needed. Mild redness and inflammation are common and typically subside within 24 hours.

How Long Does Fractora™ Take?

Fractora™ is a relatively quick procedure. Numbing cream preparation takes up to 15 minutes, and the treatment itself lasts approximately 30 minutes, depending on the coverage area. Patients should expect a single Fractora™ session to take about one hour in total.

What Is Fractora™?

Fractora™ is a non-invasive skin treatment that uses fractional radiofrequency technology to minimize even the deepest aging damage and restore a more youthful skin appearance. The most commonly treated areas include the eyelids, smile lines, forehead, cheeks, mouth, and neck.

The Fractora™ handpiece sends 24 silicone-coated needles into the dermis. The tip of each needle is uncoated and releases radiofrequency (RF) energy deep in the dermis. This thermal RF injury is fractional — meaning some surrounding skin is left uninjured — and causes a controlled breakdown of tissue that heals with new collagen and elastin from the adjacent undamaged skin. The coated needle shaft preserves the outer skin layer, reducing downtime.

Fractora™ Risks & Complications

The risks of severe complications with Fractora™ are minimal but include:

  • Excessive skin redness: In most cases, this side effect resolves within days of the procedure.
  • Change of pigmentation (infrequent): Best results are typically achieved with an experienced provider.
  • Bruising: Usually imperceptible but occasionally visible.
  • Scarring (very infrequent): There is a minimal chance of scarring.

Fractora™ Treatment Types

Fractora™ treatments are available in three intensity levels, depending on the severity of the skin concern:

Light Treatments

Use a low-energy setting with a shorter needle. This approach typically requires 6–8 sessions to achieve desired results.

Moderate treatments

Utilize more powerful energy, requiring just 4–6 treatments.

Deep treatments

Employ the most powerful energy with extended needle tips, typically requiring only 1–3 treatments.

The appropriate treatment level is determined by the coverage area and severity of wrinkles or skin irregularities.

How is Fractora™ Performed?

Prior to treatment, a qualified provider will discuss the patient’s areas of concern, skin type and tone, expected results, and realistic outcomes.

On the day of treatment, a numbing agent is applied to manage discomfort. The device that transfers radiofrequency energy through micro pins is then carefully traced over the targeted areas.

Physician-level Fractora™ treatments use both superficial and deeper coated tips with stronger energy and may be combined with other resurfacing devices such as Fractional CO2. Results for wrinkle reduction and skin laxity are more significant and can be achieved in a single session, though downtime is approximately 7 days.

The process takes approximately one hour per area treated.

Preparing for a Fractora™ Procedure

To reduce the likelihood of complications and support faster recovery, patients should follow these preparation steps:

  • Avoid sun exposure and tanning beds for at least 4 weeks before treatment.
  • Stop anti-inflammatory drugs and supplements that can increase bleeding, with a doctor’s approval.
  • Avoid alcohol within 24 hours of the procedure.
  • Drink plenty of water before and after treatment — hydrated skin heals faster.

What to Expect After Fractora™

Patients typically notice an improvement to their skin appearance immediately after treatment. Skin tightness, swelling, and redness generally subside within 24 hours. Some patients experience small bumps from the fractional needle insertions, which disappear within days. Patients are advised to moisturize the treatment area 2–3 times daily and avoid prolonged direct sun exposure.

Fractora™ Recovery Timeline

  • Day 1: Redness subsides; makeup can be worn for lighter treatments
  • Week 1: Swelling resolves completely; makeup can be worn for stronger treatments
  • Weeks 1–4: Redness dissipates for stronger treatments
  • Weeks 2–6: Significant improvements become apparent
  • Months 3–6: Results continue to develop as Fractora™ stimulates ongoing collagen production
  • Sunscreen should be worn throughout the recovery period

Fractora™ FAQ

Is Getting Fractora™ Painful?

The mild to moderate discomfort associated with Fractora™ is managed with a numbing agent applied before the procedure. Laughing gas (Pronox/Nitrous Oxide) is also used to keep the procedure comfortable. The treatment provider may also offer oral medication to manage discomfort in specific situations.

Can I Wear Makeup After the Procedure?

Fractora™ requires minimal downtime, and patients can typically resume daily activities immediately afterward. To get the best results, patients should wait 24 to 48 hours before applying makeup. Those who have undergone a stronger treatment may need to wait up to one week.

Will the Treatment Last Forever?

Fractora™ stimulates collagen production to rejuvenate the skin, making results long-term. The natural aging process continues after treatment, so maintenance procedures are typically recommended — on average, 1–2 times per year is sufficient to maintain results.
