How Long Does it Take to Recover From Fractora?

Recovering from a Fractora session depends upon the aggressiveness of the settings and treatment.

For mild settings, the recovery is quick – most patients resume normal activities immediately. But for more vigorous Fractora settings for more problematic skin, a week of downtime may be needed. While patients experience mild redness and inflammation, it will subside within 24 hours.

How Long Does Fractora Take?

Fractora is a treatment that does not take long to perform. The numbing cream preparation will take up to 15 minutes and the treatment itself will last around 30 minutes, depending on the coverage area to be treated. Patients should expect a single Fractora treatment to take one hour altogether.

What is Fractora?

Introducing Fractora™, a non-invasive skin treatment that uses fractional radiofrequency technology to minimize even the deepest aging damage and restores your youthful, beautiful skin. The most commonly treated areas are the eyelids, smile lines, forehead, cheeks, mouth, and neck.

The Fractora handpiece sends 24 silicone coated needles into the depths of the skin (dermis). The tip of each Fractora needle is uncoated and releases radiofrequency (RF) energy deep in the dermis. This thermal RF injury is fractional (leaves some skin uninjured) and causes a breakdown of surrounding tissue which heals with new collagen and elastic from undamaged adjacent skin. The coated needle also preserves the outer layer of the skin, for less downtime.

Who Is A Good Candidate for Fractora?

Those who are in good health and want to improve the visible signs of aging, acne scarring or skin irregularities are good candidates for Fractora.

Fractora Risks & Complications

The risks of severe complications with Fractora are minimal but include:

  • Excessive skin redness: In most cases, this side effect resolved in the days after the procedure.
  • Change of pigmentation (infrequent): The best results can be achieved by using an experienced surgeon.
  • Bruising: Bruising is typically imperceptible but can occasionally be visible.
  • Scarring (very infrequent): There is a minimal chance of scarring. In the rare occurrence that a scar was to occur, it would be treated free of charge.

Different Types of Fractora

The Toronto Plastic Surgeons utilize different types of Fractora needle tips, which are divided into three categories: light, moderate and deep.

Light treatments

Uses a low energy setting, with a shorter Fractora needle. This treatment usually requires 6-8 sessions to achieve the desired results.

Moderate treatments

Utilize more powerful energy, requiring just 4-6 treatments.

Deep treatments

Employ the most powerful energy and is administered with more extended needle tips, which only require 1-3 treatments.

The type of treatment used will depend based on the coverage area and severity of wrinkle/skin irregularities.

Fractora Alternatives

Chemical peels, Microdermabrasion and Microneedling without RF have less downtime but provides far less texture improvement, less wrinkle reduction, and far less tissue tightening.

How is Fractora Performed?

During your initial consultation, your areas of concern, skin type, and tone will be discussed, along with your expected results and realistic outcomes.

On the day of treatment, a numbing agent or oral medication will be given to manage any discomfort. The device that transfers the radiofrequency energy through micro pins will then be carefully traced over the targeted areas on the body.

The Physician Fractora treatments use both superficial and deeper, coated Fractora tips, much stronger energy and may combine other resurfacing devices, like Fractional CO2. The results for wrinkle reduction and laxity are much more significant and are achieved in a single session, but the downtime is approximately 7 days.

The process will take approximately 1 hour per area treated. After the procedure, you will be given aftercare instructions.

Preparing for a Fractora Procedure

Decrease the likelihood of complications and speed up recovery time by following these simple preparation steps:

  • Avoid sun exposure and tanning beds for at least 4 weeks before their Fractora treatment.
  • Anti-inflammatory drugs and supplements that can increase bleeding should also be stopped with your doctor’s permission.
  • Do not consume alcohol within 24 hours of the procedure.
  • Drink plenty of water before and after your treatment – hydrated skin heals faster!

What to Expect Post Fractora Treatment

Patients will notice an improvement to their facial appearance immediately. Any skin tightness, swelling or redness will subside after 24 hours. Some patients experience little bumps from the fractional needle insertions, though they disappear within days. Patients are expected to moisturize the treatment area 2-3 times a day and to avoid extreme direct sun exposure.

Fractora Recovery

Day 1: Redness will subside & makeup can be worn (lighter treatments)

Week 1:  Swelling is completely gone & makeup can be worn (stronger treatments)

Week 1-4: Redness will dissipate (stronger treatments)

Week 2-6: Significant improvements apparent

Month 3-6:  Since Fractora stimulates collagen regrowth, results can continue to develop for 3 to 6 months

Sunscreen to be worn throughout the recovery period

Fractora FAQ

Is Getting Fractora Painful?

The mild to moderate discomfort that comes with a Fractora treatment is relieved by using a numbing agent to the target area before your appointment. Along with the use of laughing gas (Pronox, Nitrous Oxide), the procedure is quite enjoyable. Our team may also offer oral medication to reduce the pain in specific situations.

Can I Wear Makeup After the Procedure?

Fractora procedures need minimal downtime for recovery, meaning patients can go about their day to day activities straight after the process. To benefit from the best effects of Fractora, patients should wait to apply makeup until 24 to 48 hours after the treatment. Note that those who have opted for a stronger Fractora procedure may have to wait up to one week to apply makeup.

Will the Treatment Last Forever?

Fractora stimulates collagen production to rejuvenate the skin; results are long-term. The aging process will continue after the treatment and patients require additional procedures in the future. On average  1-2 times per year to “protect your investment”, is all that is required.
