CO2 fractional laser resurfacing recovery involves minimal discomfort and is well-tolerated by all skin types. Ideally, you would have a few days to a week of downtime available to you, although some are able to return to work the same day by wearing makeup to camouflage the reddened, warm skin which lasts anywhere from 2-48 hours post-treatment. Proper post-treatment care will be outlined.
Fractional CO2 laser skin resurfacing takes about 15 to 25 minutes, plus at least 45 minutes for the topical anesthesia to begin to work before the procedure starts.
The CO2 fractional laser offers incredible non-surgical results in skin rejuvenation. Using advanced laser technology, the CO2 (carbon dioxide) laser works to remove the outermost layers of damaged skin to reveal softer, smoother, younger-looking skin underneath.
People opt for fractional CO2 laser treatment because it is rightly considered a top anti-aging breakthrough, effectively targeting fine lines, wrinkles, sun damage, dark spots, acne scars, and irregular skin tones caused by uneven pigmentation.
If you are in general good health and are concerned about the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars or pigment irregularities, you are likely a good candidate for CO2 fractional laser therapy. Patients who should not undergo CO2 laser treatments include women who are pregnant, those taking medications that increase photosensitivity, people undergoing chemotherapy, or those with bleeding or scarring disorders. During your consultation, we will review your medical history thoroughly to ensure your candidacy.
Fractional CO2 laser skin resurfacing at Toronto Plastic Surgeons is far more effective than any topical skincare product available. CO2 laser treatments can provide the following benefits:
CO2 laser skin resurfacing stimulates collagen production in the skin, triggering ongoing rejuvenation over several months post-treatment. The result? Firmer, tighter, younger-looking skin.
Treatments with a CO2 laser can improve your skin texture and even out your tone by treating irregularities in your complexion while minimizing hyperpigmentation and brightening your skin overall.
Fractional CO2 laser treatments can reduce sun damage and the sunspots that often accompany it (also known as age spots, dark spots, or liver spots), as well as remove birthmarks or moles.
Skin resurfacing works to diminish deep acne scars, providing a smoother skin texture overall. By removing the top layers of the skin, the lasers can reduce the size of the holes or wounds left by these scars.
Fractional laser treatments are typically very well tolerated, and complications are rare. However, as with any procedure, there are some risks. These include:
At Toronto Plastic Surgeons, every member of our team is dedicated to helping make your experience a top-quality one. There’s a reason we have repeatedly been named one of Canada’s top laser skin care facilities. Our state-of-the-art laser equipment, nurses, aestheticians, customer service staff and procedure rooms are just the tip of the iceberg.
Fractional CO2 laser treatments send microscopic columns of laser energy through the skin into the dermis, where the heat stimulates the growth of new collagen and elastin. This growth continues to manifest post-procedure in visible, skin-tightening improvements. The laser’s light also works to smooth out lines, wrinkles, and scars and remove brown spots or other irregularities.
Fractional CO2 laser skin resurfacing only affects a fraction of your skin with thousands of tiny microscopic laser heating channels. The areas left untreated form small “bridges,” which serve to speed up the healing process. That’s why this advanced technique is far superior to traditional C2 treatments with regards to recovery!
We will provide you with specific laser treatment pre-op instructions, but one general rule of thumb is to avoid tanning for at least 4 weeks prior to treatment, as skin that has been exposed to UV rays is at a higher risk for complications and discomfort during the procedure.
Post fractional CO2 laser surgery, you can expect an improvement of up to 60% of your fine lines, scars, and pigmentation concerns. We have found patient satisfaction to be very high following, as fractional lasers truly correct a multitude of skin concerns effectively. Following your procedure, we will also provide detailed post-laser recovery guidance. We will additionally recommend you use a sunscreen with an SPF of 45+ and avoid direct sun exposure for at least a month.
Weeks 1-2: The most significant recovery occurs in the first week. By the end of week 1, you can expect to resume your usual activities, but for some, downtime can be up to 2 weeks. Patients are encouraged to avoid wearing makeup for the first week if possible.
Week 3: After two weeks, you can expect to see an almost complete recovery. Your skin will continue building collagen over several months but will appear normal again by week 3, at which time patients usually feel the most comfortable resuming exercise.
Post 1 month: Expect to see real improvements in your skin after 4 weeks. At this time, if required, we may recommend that you undergo the next treatment in your treatment plan as discussed during your consultation.
The Toronto Plastic Surgeons offer the option of conscious sedation to our patients, making the treatment quick, painless, and easy as possible.
Yes. CO2 lasers are an excellent treatment for deep acne scars. Patients of all ages who do not want to live with unsightly acne scars can benefit.
We recommend waiting about a month post-procedure before undergoing Botox, Juvederm, or other dermal filler treatments in order to let your skin heal and regenerate first.
The length of time your fractional CO2 laser treatment lasts will depend on how well you protect your skin from sun damage and environmental factors like smoking. As well, natural factors like aging, overall health, and changes in weight play a role. Typically, however, if all goes well, you can expect quality results for several years!
